Bohun

01. Humphrey De Bohun, the founder of this family in England, was kinsman and companion in arms of William, the Conqueror, and was generally known as "Humphrey with the Beard." Of this Humphrey little more is ascertained than that he possessed the lordship of Taterford, in Norfolk, and was succeeded by his son.

02. Humphrey III De Bohun, ^[1] son of Humphrey was born abt. 1100.  He married Margaret of Hereford who died in 1146.

03. Humphrey IV De Bohun, ^[1] son of Humphrey and Margaret was born abt. 1155.  He married Margaret De Huntingdon.

04. Henry De Bohun, ^[1] son of Humphrey and Margaret was born in 1176.  He married Maud Fitz Geoffrey De Mandeville.  He died on June 1, 1220 during a pilgrimage to the Holy Land.

05. Humphrey V De Bohun, ^[1] son of Henry and Maude was born abt 1208.  He married Maud D'eu.  He died on September 24, 1275.

06. Humphrey VI De Bohun, ^[1] son of Humphrey and Maude was born abt 1225.  He married Eleanor De Braose, daughter of William De Braose and Eve Marshall.  He died on October 27, 1265.

07a. Humphrey VII De Bohun, ^[1] 3rd Earl of Hereford and son of Humphrey and Eleanor was born abt. 1249.  He was known for his opposition to King Edward I over the "Confirmatio Cartarum". He was also an active participant in the Welsh Wars and maintained for several years a private feud with the Earl of Gloucester. He married Maud De Fiennes, daughter of Enguerrand De Fiennes and Isabel De Conde.  He died on December 31, 1298. 

07b. Eleanor De Bohun, ^[1] daughter of Humphrey and Eleanor was born abt. 1239.  She married Robert De Ferrers, son of William De Ferrers and Margaret De Quincy.  I descend from their son John De Ferrers who married Hawise De Muscegros.

08. Humphrey VIII De Bohun, ^[1] 4th Earl of Hereford and son of Humphrey and Maude was born in 1276.  Humphrey was one of several earls and barons under Edward I who laid siege to Caerlaverock Castle in Scotland in 1300 and later took part in many campaigns in Scotland.  He married Elizabeth Plantagenet, daughter of King Edward I and Eleanor of Castile.  He died on March 16, 1322 during the "Battle of Boroughbridge". 

09a. William De Bohun, ^[1] 1st Earl of Northampton and son of Humphrey and Elizabeth and grandson of King Edward I was born abt. 1312.  He assisted at the arrest of Roger Mortimer in 1330, allowing Edward III to take power. After this, he was a trusted friend and commander of the king and he participated in the renewed wars with Scotland. In 1335 He married Elizabeth Badlesmere, daughter of Bartholomew Badlesmere and Margaret De Clare.  William was created Earl of Northampton in 1337, one of the six earls created by Edward III to renew the ranks of the higher nobility. He died on September 16, 1360.

09b. Eleanor De Bohun, ^[1] daughter of Humphrey and Elizabeth was born abt. 1310.  She married James Butler.  See Butler surname for continuation of this line.

10. Elizabeth De Bohun, ^[1] daughter of William and Elizabeth was born abt 1350.  She married Richard FitzAlan in 1359. 
She died on April 3, 1385.  I descend from their 2 daughters:

   (1) Elizabeth FitzAlan (1378-1425) who married Robert Goushill
   (2) Joan FitzAlan who married William De Beauchamp
