"the wife of Jedadiah Turner," in 1758. He married 2nd Rachel
Thompson, daughter of Caleb Thompson and Rebecca Hickok on April 5,

The following is a summary what is known about Asa Turner based on
the research of Alma C Turner :
|
05. Asa Turner,
[1]
Revolutionary War
soldier and Baptist minister, Asa was born on June 14, 1765 in
Watertown, Connecticut, son of Jedediah Turner and Rachel Thompson. His
father's ancesters were in Connecticut since at least 1633.
Asa is the great-great grandson of Edward Turner and Mary Sanford.
In 1778 when he was 13, the Revolutionary War was going on and he
enlisted. He served several posts between 1778-1782.
After he served in the war he met Isabel Ketchum and married her
on February 14, 1788. Isabel was born on October 9, 1769 in
Lansingburgh, NY. Isabel is almost certainly a younger sister of
Asa's older brother Thomas' wife Sarah Ketchum. Sarah was a daughter
of Samuel and Deborah Ketchum, who, as of 1790 census time, were
Lansingburgh residents (source: Rupert Charles Loucks.)
In 1787, the couple was in the village of
Franklin, NY where son Gideon was born. The following year he was sent
to Upper Canada to establish the Baptist church there. While in Canada,
son Benajmin was born in 1793 and daughter Pamelia in 1805 while in
Hastings County, Ontario. He was called back to the US by 1810 and was
located in the area of Scipio/ Pleasant Valley NY where he was also a
Baptist minister. He is on the
1820 census in Chautauqua, NY, the
1830 census in Ellery, Chautauqua, NY and the
1840 census in Stockton, Chautauqua, NY. By 1847 he was living with daughter Louisa Jones
in Stockton, Chautauqua Co., NY. He died on November 27, 1847 and was
buried in Stockton, Chautauqua Co., NY.
To date, no will has been found for Asa. Records from around the time Asa
was in Upper Canada have been burned so it is hard to obtain information
from this timeframe. One of his granddaughters was Josephine B. Mix (nee
Dexter), a 19th Woman Physician of the Medical College of New York City.
Asa had a brother, William Turner who was also from Chautauqa Co.
Asa died on November 27, 1847 in Stockton, NY.
Isabel died on March
23, 1842 in Stockton, NY.
Asa has a plaque at Turner's Corner's ie Old Baptist Road and 8th
Concession, at the Baptist Church, Sidney Township, Hastings Co. He had
land just a few settlements (farms) away. The plaque was placed by the
Gov't of Ontario commorating his work in founding many Baptist Churches
in Upper Canada. Alma's gr gr gr Grandfather , Benjamin Turner, owned
the land and stone house and Turner School, just kitty corner to the
Plaque and Church. Benjamin built that house. Click

Corner and here to see the
plaque.
