GENERATION 1 |
01. Richard FitzAlan, [1] 8th Earl of Arundel was born on February 3, 1267. He married Alasia De Saluzzo. Richard fought for Edward I in Wales, France and Scotland. He died on March 9, 1302. |
GENERATION 2 |
02. Edmund FitzAlan, [1] 9th Earl of Arundel and son of Richard and Alasia was born on May 1, 1285. He married Alice De Warenne. Edmund was Chief Justiciar of Wales. He fiercely opposed Piers Gaveston, confidant of Edward II, and was one of the ordainers appointed in 1310. He would not march with Edward II to Bannockburn; however, he sided with Edward II from 1321 and was executed at Hereford by partisans of Queen Isabella on November 17, 1326. |

03. Richard FitzAlan, [1] 10th Earl of Arundel and son of Edmund and Alice was born abt 1306. King Edward III restored to him the lands and honors that his father had forfeited. In 1334 Richard was made Justiciar of North Wales for life. In 1339 governor of Carnarvon Castle; in 1345 Sheriff of Shropshire for life. He distinguished himself in the French wars, being Admiral of the West 1340-1 and 1345-7 and commanding the second division at the Battle of Crecy in 1346. He was at the fall of Calais in 1347. In 1361, upon the death of his aunt Joan de Warenne, he succeeded to the vast Warenne estates and to the Earldom of Surrey. He married Eleanor Plantagenet, daughter of Henry Plantagenet and Maud De Chaworth. Richard died on January 24, 1376. |
GENERATION 4 |
04. Richard FitzAlan, [1] 11th Earl of Arundel and son of Richard and Eleanor was born in 1346. He married Elizabeth De Bohun, daughter of William De Bohun and Elizabeth Badlesmere in 1359. He was the bearer of the crown at the coronation of King Richard II. He was a member of the Council and was made Admiral of the West and South in 1377, then, in 1386, of all England. Also K.G. in 1386. He distinguished himself in the French wars, gaining a brilliant naval victory over the allied French, Spanish, and Flemish fleets off Margate in 1387. He was made governor of Brest in 1388. In 1388, also, he joined with the Duke of Gloucester in taking an active part against the King, who was, at that time, entirely in the Duke's power. In 1394 he obtained pardon for all political offenses, but was treacherously seized on 12 July 1397, tried at Westminster, and beheaded in Cheapside 12 September 1397. |
