01.
Christopher Scott [1]
was born
abt. 1575 in Hatfield, Broad Oak, Essex, England. His wife's name is
unknown. She was not mentioned in his will and almost certainly
predeceased him. Christopher died in 1640 in Essex, England. "Christopher Scott of Hatfield Broad Oak was identified as the father of New England immigrants Thomas Scott and Sarah (Scott) Graves based on his will. In his will he names the children of Thomas and Sarah, and these names exactly match the names of the children of the immigrants. The parish registers of Hatfield Broad Oak no longer exist before 1650, so it will be impossible to reconstruct this family from baptism records. Christopher Scott was born probably by 1570 and died at Hatfield Broad Oak, in the western part of co. Essex, between 1 April 1640 and 23 August 1640, the dates that his will was signed and proved. He was called brother by Henry Younge of Hatfield Broadoak, yeoman, whose will, dated 11 January 1619[/20] and proved on 12 April 1620, included a bequest "to my loving brothers Thomas Scott & Christopher Scott to either of them a peece of gold of vs vjd to be paid to them w[i]thin six monethes after my death." Ann died on May 5, 1675. "Born by about 1597 (based on estimated date of marriage). Came to Massachusetts Bay in 1634 (based on grant of land at Cambridge on 4 August 1634). First settled in Cambridge; moved to Hartford in 1636. Died 6 November 1643 (died while dictating a nuncupative will on that date). (At a Connecticut Particular Court in early 1644 [probably in March], the "jury find that John Ewe, by misadventure, was the cause of the death of Tho[mas] Scott. The said John Ewe is fined to pay five pounds to the country and ten pounds to the widow Scotte")." Source The children of Thomas and Ann are:
