GENERATION 1

01. James Paty [1] was born about 1705 at Prince George Co., VA.  He married Sarah Clanton circa 1741.  He died on December 10, 1758 at Halifax Co., VA (source: "Paty/Patty Family History" by Delores Caylor Lansford, p. 1.) Early Patty ancestors spelled their last name Paty and some later took the spelling of Patty.

GENERATION 2

02. James Paty, [1] son of James and Sarah was born between 1747 and 1750 at Lunenburg Co, VA. He married Margaret Mote, daughter of David Mote and Dorcas Nichols, on 11 March 1769 at Newberry Co, SC. Birth and marriage records for James and Margaret are in "Paty/Patty Family History" by Delores Caylor Lansford, p. 6-7 (image). He died on 28 July 1796 at Newberry Co, SC.   James settled in Newberry County, South Carolina, where he lived and raised his family. He is buried there. James was a Quaker, as were most of his children. He was thought to be a birthright Quaker, This was not the case, he married a Quaker and choose to become a Quaker after the marriage. It was not the practice of Quakers to own slaves or fight in the wars, but James did own slaves. There are records in the Newberry Court house, where he bought three slaves.  (Source: Delores Caylor Lansford)

GENERATION 3

03. Charles Paty, [1] son of James and Margaret was born on November 21, 1788 in Columbia Dist., SC.  He married Phoebe Pearson, daughter of Enoch Pearson and Phoebe De Moss on February 12, 1805 in Newberry Co., SC.  Birth and marriage records for Charles and Phoebe are in "Paty/Patty Family History" by Delores Caylor Lansford, p. 21-22 who quotes a number of sources (image).  They had 10 children which are also listed in Delores' book.  Charles moved with the Quaker Wagon train from South Carolina to Montgomery County, Ohio in 1807.  He died on September 23, 1849 in Newton Township, Miami Co., Ohio.

GENERATION 4

04. Marsena Jay Patty, [1] daughter of Charles and Phoebe was born abt 1805 in South Carolina.  The name has also been spelled Morsena and Moesena.  Proof that Marsena is their daughter comes from "Miami County Ohio History West Branch Monthly Meetings", p. 785 (Source: Delores Caylor Lansford) and she is also listed on page 22 and 58 of Delores' book "Paty/Patty Family History" (1992) (image 1, image 2). 

She married Martin Furnas, son of William Furnas and Rachel Nesley, on September 3, 1823 in Miami Ohio.  Marsena's marriage to Martin is listed on page 58-59 of Delores' book which states that the marriage is listed in the Miami County, Ohio Quaker Records.  It's also listed  in "Genealogical and Biographical Record of Miami County" page 387.  They had 11 children. Click on Martin's record for their children. 

Martin died July 14, 1849.  Marsena appears on the 1850 Census as head of household with 4 children.  Marcena died on October 7, 1882 in Miami, OH.

My Dad currently shares DNA with 40 matches that have a listed descent from the Patty family.  This is based on some of their Ancestry.com trees, futher research I have done on their lines and triangulation done with other shared DNA matches.  From our shared ancestors, 11 of them descend from James Patty/Sarah Clanton, 27 descend from James Patty/Margaret Mote and 2 descend from James Patty/Phoebe Pearson.
