My Mote ancestors

GENERATION 1

01. Jonathan Mote [1] was born before 1709 in England.  He immigrated to America, with his two brothers, and settled in southeast Pennsylvania (Source: The Mote Family in America).  His wife's name may have been Sarah.  He died in 1763 at the Little River Settlement at Sampson's Fork, Newberry County, S.C.  Click here to see some research of Jonathan Mote on Rootsweb as compiled by Beverly Johnson.  The children of Jonathan and Sarah shown on Beverly's page as listed by researcher Corinne Diller are:

GENERATION 2

02. David Mote, [1] son of Jonathan and Sarah was born on March 4, 1733 in Chester County, PA.  He married Dorcas Nichols (1732-1817) ,  daughter of Jeremiah Nichols. They had 11 children.  The following information on David and his family is referenced from Bevery Johnson's Rootsweb research page available here

David moved to North Carolina and then to Georgia. He was a member of the Society of Friends. In 1774, at the first monthly meeting at Wrightsborough (in Columbia Co., now McDuffie Co, GA); Joseph Maddock, James Mendenhall, John Stubbs, David Mote, Francis Jones and Joseph Williams were appointed to draw up an address to the Governor of Georgia. David Mote was prominent in the affairs of the Friends, and his name appeared frequently in the records of the meetings. At the age of 71, he with his family, removed to Miami County, OH where he died of gastritis at the age of 83 years, 10 months, at the home of his son John.

Generation 3

03. Margaret Mote, [1] daughter of David and Dorcas was born on February 28, 1753 in Orange County, NC.  She married James Paty, son of James and Sarah Clanton in 1772 in Wrightsboro, Georgia.  Margaret died on March 7, 1803 in Newberry, SC.  

I descend from their son Charles Paty who married Phoebe Pearson.
