At this time only yDNA matches indicate there is an early connection to
the Snipes family that eventually became my
Marshall branch. With the exception of 1 Marshall on my direct
line who tested, the other 16 yDNA matches all have an earlier Snipes
ancestor. This page documents the earlier ancestors of this family
in the hopes to discover the connection to it. I have a very small number of AncestryDNA autosomal Snipes matches and none of them have shared matches to my other 39 Marshall autosomal DNA matches. This seems to indicate that the Snipes connection is most likely before 1750. Many of my 16 yDNA matches show an earliest known Snipes ancestor and those are indicated as matches on this page. There is a "Anne Marshall" who married into the Snipes family in 1674 but this maternal line is unrelated to my Marshall line. The most likely scenario is my Snipes ancestor was born to a male Snipes in 1750 or before who died when my ancestor was under 18. Afterwards, his mother remarried a "Marshall" and my Snipes ancestor may have assumed that name. |
