Origin of the Langlois Surname

The name Langlois means "The Englishman" but has French origins.  For this particular family line it has its roots in England with the "Sargent' line eventually becoming "Langlois" when Daniel Sargent went to Canada and had his name changed to "Louis-Philippe Langlois."

GENERATION 1
John G. Sargent II was born in 1633 in St. Germans, Cornwall, England.  On November 23, 1640 he married Martha Axeford, daughter of Henry Axeford Burges and Katherine Mathews.  Martha was born on August 30, 1609 in St. Germans and died in 1673 in Saco, Maine.  John died on August 10, 1703 in Saco, Maine.
GENERATION 2
Digory Sargent, son of John and Martha was born on June 22, 1651 in St. Germans, Cornwall, England.  Digory was a soldier in King Philip's War in 1675 in the rolls of Boston men under Captain Daniel Henchman.  He was an early Pioneer of the Second Settlement of Worcester in 1684. He settled in Worcester around 1685 on Sagatabscot Hill.  He cleared the land and was a carpenter by trade.  On October 13, 1693 he married (1) Constance James.  On March 17, 1696 he married (2) Mary Parmenter, daughter of George Parmenter and Hannah Johnson.  In 1702 Digory was killed and scalped by Indians and his wife and children taken captive to Canada.  Mary was murdered on the trek to Canada. The four children taken captive were Martha, John, Daniel (see generation #3 below), Thomas, and Mary.   
GENERATION 3
Daniel Sargent a.k.a. Louis-Philippe Langlois Serien, son of Digory and Mary was born in September 1699 in Worcester, MA.  In 1702 he was one of the four children of Digory and Mary taken captive by Indians and brought to Canada.  He was eventually turned over to Philippe de Rigault, the governor general of New France and later baptised in Montreal on November 6, 1707 with the new name Louis-Philippe Langlois. He was naturalized in May of 1710 under his new name.  On January 22, 1718 in Riviere Ouelle, Quebec, Canada he married Marguerite Lavoie, daughter of Jean Francois de Lavoie and Marie Madeline Boucher.  She was born on October 22, 1693 in Quebec, Canada and died on February 4, 1773 in Quebec. Louis died on August 3, 1728 in Quebec.

GENERATION 4
Marie Madeleine Langlois, daughter of Louis and Marguerite was born on March 29, 1723 in Quebec, Canada.  On April 3, 1743 she married Joseph Hudon dit Beaulieu, son of Nicholas Hudon dit Beaulieu and Marie Madeline Bouchard.  Joseph was born on May 1, 1716 in Quebec, Canada and died on February 6, 1776 in Quebec. Madeleine died on August 15, 1766 in Quebec, Canada.

Their son Jeremie Joseph Hudon dit Beaulieu (1743-1829) continues this line.
