"Charity Wright received no formal education, but was influenced by numerous Quaker woman preachers during her childhood. An accusation in 1760 of sexual impropriety against her resulted in her estrangement from the Quakers for eight years. Nonetheless, in 1762 she married a Quaker, Isaac Cook, and they had 11 children. By 1772 the earlier controversy had died down and the Bush Run Meeting commissioned her to be a preacher. During the Revolutionary War, Cook traveled throughout the South advocating pacifism. Beginning in 1797 she toured Quaker meetings throughout Europe. She returned to the U.S. in 1802, and she and her husband established Quaker meetings throughout Ohio and Indiana." - Source: "Charity Cook a Liberated Woman" by Algie I. Newlin (1981).
