Origin of the Terrell Surname

"The name Terrell (or Terrill) is a Norman surname (now present in Ireland, Britain and USA), possibly meaning stubborn or follower of Thor, though, due to its Norman origin, either is possible.  The first records of the family come with Walter Tirel III who is suspected of killing King William the II of England."  (Source)

GENERATION 1

John Terrell, Sr. was born in 1707 in St. Pauls, New Kent, Virginia and died on Feb 20, 1780 in Loisburg, Franklin, NC.  He married Elizabeth Harrison (1712-1784).

GENERATION 2

Matthew P. Terrell, son of John and Elizabeth was born in 1740 in Harrison, VA and died on Nov 14, 1830 in Clarksburg, Harrison, VA.  He married Mary Hughes (1749-1810).

GENERATION 3

Timothy Terrell, son of Matthew and Mary was born on Aug 10, 1784 in Westmoreland Co., PA and died on May 12, 1849 in Ohio.  He married Elizabeth Nixon (1782-1838)

GENERATION 4

Hiram William Terrill, son of Timothy and Elizabeth was born on May 5, 1805 in Harrison, VA and died on Apr 24, 1854 in Wapello, IA.  He married Betsy Elizabeth Crossin (1811-1871). TThey had 11 children:
