Rhoda McMullen

Death Date: June 01, 1913 in Conway Springs, Sumner, Kansas
Parents: Joseph McMullen and Mary Young
Married: James Crews on August 03, 1851 in Monroe Co., Iowa
Rhoda, born at Belmont County, Ohio, died at Conway Springs, Kansas of ptomaine poisoning by eating canned corn.  She moved to Albia, Iowa with her parents in 1837. Her mother, Mary was from the Dunkard faith, and 2 pictures of Rhoda show her wearing the old Dunkard type clothing.

Rhoda moved from Iowa in 1877. Came to Sumner County by covered wagon 608 miles.  Settled in school land near Austin, Kansas.  One day when she was 4 years old, about 4 pm she and her sisters went to look for eggs. She followed her sisters and became lost in the woods. She was found the next day asleep by a log. Her Grandfather (Mary Young's father) carried bread in his pocket knowing she would be hungry when she was found. He was of English and Scotish and PA Dutch extraction. He was a cobbler.
