According to the Post mailing list, Donald Edward Poste's "50 year research of the English POST Family" says that the ancestors of Stephen Post remain in question as there appear to be a lack of documentation and references to back it up. I do not have any of the Post books listed below, but I present here a summary of what is known so far based on internet research. |
01. Goosen Post, the first
Post ancestor on record was
born before 1500. He married Jantje Van Zul and had 2 children, Peter and George. 03. Peter Arnold Van Der Poest, son of Peter and Annatie was born abt 1500. He married Maragrietje Bogert on September 13, 1539. 04. Thomas Post son of Peter was born abt 1530 in Hollingbourne, Kent, England. He married Thomazin. 06. Stephen Post, son of Abraham and Ann was born on October 17, 1596 in Otham, Kent, England. He married Eleanore Panton on October 17, 1625 in Hollingbourne, Kent, England. Eleanore's last name is often listed as Langley, which is probably a confusion with her place of birth. They came to America in the ship "Griffin" arriving in Boston on September 4, 1633. Stephen was a carpenter. He lived at Otham, Kent, England, where most of his children were born. He was a follower and adjerent of the Rev. Thomas Hooker. His name appears on the monument as one of the founders of Hartford, CT. He migrated monument as one of the founders of Hartford, CT. He migrated first to Newtowne (Cambridge), MA in 1634, then joined Rev. Hooker's group at Hartford, CT, then to Saybrook, CT, where he purchased his first land in Oyster Rever in 1648. Stephen died on August 16, 1659 in Saybrook, Middlesex, MA. 07. John Post, son of Stephen and Eleanore was born on September 16, 1629 in Otham, Kent, England. Was in Hartford by 1636; to Saybrook 1649; to Norwich 1660. An original proprietor of Norwich; accepted freeman 1663, townsman 1674. He married Hester Hyde in 1652 in Saybrook, Middlesex, MA. John died on November 27, 1711 in Norwich, New London, CT. 08. Margaret Post, daughter of John and Hester was born on February 21, 1653 in Saybrook, Middlesex, MA. She married Caleb Abell in July 1669 in Norwich, New London, CT. Caleb is the son of Robert Abell and Joanna and has a royal ancestry. They had 9 children. Margaret died in November 1700. I descend from their daughter Joanna Abell who married Zachariah Loomis. |
