My Burnham Ancestors

01. Robert Burnham was born about 1581 in Norwich, England.  In 1608 he married Mary Andrews (1585-1635).  They had 7 children.  Two of their sons, Edward and Benjamin remained in England.  He died in 1608. 

02. Thomas Burnham, son of Robert and Mary was born in 1623 in Norwich.  He was 12 years old when he sailed with his brothers John and Robert in 1635 on the ship "Angel Gabriel" for America.  The captain was Robert Andrews (sister of mother Mary).  It is unknown if they intended to stay in America, but their ship met a tragic fate off the coast and they were stranded.   The 3 boys who were under the age of 18 grew up and settled in Ipswich, Massachusetts and Dover, New Hampshire.  They were among the earliest settlers of the area.  Thomas married Marie Lawrence, daughter of Thomas Lawrence and Joan Antrobus in June, 1645.  He lived most of his life in Ipswich, Massachusetts and held several jobs including Lieutenant, Deputy to the General Court, a Selectman, was on town committees, and was a saw-mill and land owner.  Thomas and Marie had 11 children.

03. Mary Burnham, daughter of Thomas and Marie was born in 1652 in Ipswich, MA.  She married John Clark, son of Thomas Clark on October 6, 1672 in Ipswich.  They had 6 children.  Mary died in February 1723 in Ipswich.  I descend from their son Thomas Clark who married Elizabeth Leonard of Mayflower ancestry.

There are several sites that tell in more detail about the voyage of the ship "Angel Gabriel" and its passengers.  A few sites that I have found are:
